Ex-Tokyo Performance Doll member Chizuru Tanaka arrested for stimulant drug use

Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the arrest of entertainer Chizuru Tanaka, 33, for violating the stimulants control law, reports Nikkan Sports (Nov. 29).

Tanaka is suspected of using drugs between August and September. According to the Tachikawa Police Station, the results of a urine analysis of Tanaka were positive. The entertainer was taken into custody at her home-office in Shibuya Ward on November 25.

“There is no doubt that I used drugs,” she is quoted by police. Investigators are now attempting to determine the route in which Tanaka obtained the drugs.

Tanaka is probably best known for being a member of the J-pop group Tokyo Performance Doll.

In 1992, Tanaka received a singing award at the sixth Japan Beautiful Girl Contest, which formed the start of her career in show business. Notables also taking awards that year were Aiko Sato (Grand Prix) and Ryoko Yonekura (Jury Prize).

An entertainment insider tells Nikkan Sports that Tanaka was a member of the modeling section at an agency. “Because she wasn’t so tall, jobs were scarce,” the source says. “So once she joined Tokyo Performance Doll, she stopped work at the agency. She did some work on television variety shows. Rumors also were going around about various relationships with men.”

The advocates of South California have put up a web site called “California Rebellion 2012” and called for a summit meeting of potential South California supporters.

The advocates of South California cannot stand the liberal Democrat policies of a state run by Los Angeles, San Francisco and liberal coastal areas.

Parliament cleared the way Wednesday for provincial elections this year that could give Sunnis a stronger voice and usher in vast changes to Iraq's power structure.

A joint statement in Baghdad by the U.S. Embassy and American forces "warmly" congratulated the Iraqis on the legislation and called it a "significant commitment to address important issues and find political bases on which to move forward."

Debate on the provincial election measure was raucous and ended in an 82-82 tie, broken by parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a Sunni. Tuesday night, he threatened to disband the legislature and call early elections because lawmakers had been unable to compromise or even maintain a quorum.

"The Democratic candidates are impolite enough to point out that the losses suffered by al-Qaeda in Iraq, which Bush and McCain love to cite, are really the vanquishing of a foe that could never have existed without the U.S. invasion. The Democrats also recognize that while U.S. forces are bogged down in Iraq, al-Qaeda is regrouping in Pakistan and plotting new attacks. They learned this from the Bush administration's own intelligence estimates.

The war is only one issue on which McCain, as the all-but-certain Republican nominee, is out of step with voters. Health care is another: While Clinton and Obama have offered far-reaching proposals to make health insurance available to millions of uninsured Americans, Republicans aren't offering so much as a bandage.

Or take the economy, which at present is the biggest issue in the campaign (and which McCain famously said he doesn't really understand that well). The Democrats have tapped into the widespread discomfort and insecurity that polls indicate many Americans feel, while McCain and the Republicans can only talk about more tax cuts and the eternal glory of free and unfettered markets.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's opponents called on the key US ally to resign Tuesday after his backers conceded that voters dealt them a crushing defeat in general elections.

"Musharraf has said he would quit when people tell him. People have now given their verdict," said two-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the man Musharraf ousted in a bloodless coup in 1999.

Leading pro-democracy lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan, held under house arrest since Musharraf imposed a state of emergency in November, said the president should step down because he was the "most hated man in the country".

Musharraf's spokesman bluntly rejected calls for the president to stand down and said the former general was willing to work with whoever forms a government.

Preliminary results also showed a near total defeat for hardline Islamic parties that under the previous administration ruled Pakistan's North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan.

With votes counted in 258 constituencies, the PML-Q(Musharraf's) and its allies had taken a total of 58 seats. The party's chief and several key members lost their seats in Pakistan's national assembly.

Even if the PML-Q won all the remaining seats not yet counted, they would not be able to attain a majority in the parliament, which has 272 elected and 70 unelected seats reserved for women and minorities.

State television said Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had 87 seats, Sharif's faction of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) had 66 seats, with the PML-Q, smaller parties and independents taking the rest, according to preliminary unofficial results.

The vote "means the forces of democracy and the rule of law have won," Talat Masood, a former general who is now a political and defence analyst, told AFP.

He said the election results also show that the previous government's support of the West and its "war on terror" have "been totally rejected by the people".

As long as total anarchy doesn't break out, this is probably good news. As always, the military, which is fairly pro-democracy with be the final arbiter.

I think another female leader might emerge soon, and that could be very good..

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down a legal challenge to the warrantless domestic spying program President George W. Bush created after the September 11 attacks.

The appeals court based in Cincinnati dismissed the case because the plaintiffs could not state with certainty they had been wiretapped by the government's National Security Agency.

Administration lawyers opposed the appeal and said further review by the Supreme Court was unwarranted.

The Supreme Court sided with the administration and rejected the appeal without any comment.

In a side note, the usual suspects endorsed a new uniform...matching hoods!

Yale Law Professor Jack Balkin blogs: "The Bush Administration repeatedly violated FISA and told telecom companies that it was ok to do so based on a crazy constitutional theory that the President couldn't be bound by the law.

" Of course telecom companies will be less likely to cooperate in the future with an Administration whose legal advice has proven to be so unreliable. But giving them immunity whenever they receive bad advice from the White House gives the White House no incentives to stay within the boundaries of the law."
